Reverse Baptism and why it matters
Before I found home with Satan, I never gave much thought to the fact that my parents had me baptized by the catholic church. I had been a strongly skeptical atheist, and with time became a radical Pagan who loved aggressively confronting xtian supremacy. I had deconstructed so much abrahamic ideology that I felt I was personally unaffected by anything from the church.
When I met Lord Satan, I had to confront the fact that this catholic baptism still had an effect on me. Ironically, christian and catholic baptisms claim souls as young as newborns… yet they’re the first to accuse Satanists of selling our souls. So why remove these baptisms? What effect could such a trite xtian ritual have on the Satanist to be? Understanding that Satan is the god of liberation and Satanism is the path of the liberated, remaining bound to the “god” of slavery is clearly contradictory. I reversed my baptism so that I could fully accept Satan into my heart and my life. If you were baptized or otherwise ceremoniously committed to another religion or god (especially if they contradict Satan’s teachings) then you should reverse or remove these prior bindings before dedicating yourself to Satan fully. This allows Satan to better protect you. Speaking from personal experience, my interactions with Satan felt more natural after my reversal. A strange (super gross) substance came out of my body in the following days, which I understand to have been a physical manifestation of what I had purged. I’m not sure if that’s super common, but someone else shared a similar experience with me after performing a Norse version of a reverse-baptism.
Whether you’re reversing a previous baptism, or diving into Satanic baptism, know that deprogramming previous religions is not an overnight process. If you haven’t done any of this work beforehand, the results of your baptism may bring up issues that need to be dealt with. It is easiest if you’ve done at least some of the work first.

Satanic Baptism: Dedication to Satan
I’m distinguishing between the reverse baptism and the Satanic baptism here, but they are often done in the same ceremony, as it is quite common for the latter to include the former. The main purpose of the Satanic baptism is to declare oneself as a Satanist and to embrace the new path without relent.
Many confuse this ceremony with a pact–a formal ritualized agreement or oath to Satan or a Daemon. This might be because a lot of folklore and pop culture portray these things happening at the same time–implying the only reason someone would contact the Devil is to get things out of Him. This is not an attitude I recommend having when approaching Satan. Speaking for myself, Satan’s love was motivation enough to dedicate to Him, no bells and whistles needed.
I want to stress here that the purpose of the Satanic baptism is to align with Satan and be closer to Him. For the practitioner, this is likely their first diabolic ritual. Thus, this is their first big promise to Satan, so there is no need to rush into a pact. The purpose of the baptism is rebirth and dedication. Understanding this, the practitioner knows there will be plenty of time and opportunity for pacts when necessary.
Personally, I did not perform my Satanic baptism right away when it came to my relationship with Satan. His presence was very overwhelming to me (in a good way) and I wanted to get to know Him better before dedicating myself to Him. This was so that I was really sure of myself when I decided to reverse my old baptism and step onto my new path with Satan.

Preparing for Satanic Baptism
Think you might be ready to cast off the chains of the past and step onto the twisted Devil’s path? Here are some ways you might want to check in with yourself and with Satan before proceeding.
Understanding that there is no turning back, are you still up for this? After forsaking the false god, there is no turning back. Everything you say to Satan matters and has consequences, so do not go through with this ceremony idly or with a faint heart.
What work have you done to deconstruct old beliefs? This isn’t limited to religion and spirituality. Do you still hold self-limiting beliefs based in your culture, your childhood caretakers, or institutions you occupy such as your school or job? The greater global society we all live in is not geared toward Satan’s current. He is the Adversary. Consider the repercussions of jumping in completely unprepared. Inversely, this is a great opportunity to ask Satan to help you shift your perspective, but be careful what you wish for, as Satan delivers.
What are you expecting from this ritual? Do you know what Satan expects from you?
Again, there is no rush. Spend time planning your baptism with care. Consult with Satan for His guidance, as He may want you to include different elements than you originally planned. Some factors to consider can include the timing of the ritual, what offerings you would like to give, and what you are going to say to Satan during the ceremony.

The Ritual
Now that you know why you want to baptize yourself as a Satanist, and you know you are ready, it’s time to plan your baptismal ceremony. The beautiful thing about Satanic rituals is that there is a plethora of opportunities to personalize one’s practice. Your baptism should be significant to you specifically.
In her book, At Satan’s Altar, Marie Ravensoul provides a lovely Satanic baptismal ritual. My own baptism was largely based on her book’s ceremony, but I changed my wording to be more aggressive towards the (Catholic) energies I was removing. I also adjusted to include Lilith alongside Satan, as She is a huge contributor to me eventually coming home to my Diabolist path.
There is a lot of room for creativity here, and due to my personal philosophy regarding devotion to Satan, I will provide more of an outline of elements you’ll need for your baptismal rite.
Firstly, consider any reversing that may need to be done. As I’ve covered above, you should remove any contracts or commitments to anything incompatible with our Dark Lord’s current. For me, because I did not have a copy of my Catholic baptism certificate, I burned a wooden crucifix. A great example outside of religious context I’ve seen from a transgender Satanist, was that she destroyed her masculine clothing to symbolize embracing her true self as a woman.
Second, you need to figure out how you’re going to ritualistically express your dedication to Satan. In Marie Ravensoul’s ritual, this transition is symbolized by removing a white dress to don a black one. I didn’t own any white clothing, so I began skyclad and then donned a black dress and Satanic jewelry.
As I’ve mentioned, the timing of your ritual should be auspicious. Saturday and/or full moon nights are always a good choice. Alternatively, you could perform your baptism on the anniversary of your previous baptism or a day significant to your relationship with Satan.
A typical ritual outline I use goes like this:
Set up the space with all the materials you will need.
Light any candles and incense you’re using and invoke Satan. The Satanic Bible has an invocation you may use if you don’t know what to say.
Raise power and perform your rite.
Thank Satan and give Him any offerings you have prepared.
Journal any observations you have made and close your temple.
Keep record of the experiences you have after your baptism. You may find that you move through the world–and it moves around you–differently. Satan’s presence may feel more comfortable than before, and certain animals may change their behavior around you. Regardless, be joyful that you have been welcomed into Lord Satan’s empire. Your soul is now free.
